Made by a pilot for pilots, the “Formation Lead” Throttle Grip with PTT and SMOKE is manufactured in the USA by Swearingen 3D works of Marion IA., packaged in the USA and distributed by the designer. Everything you order is prepared just for you, only after you order. Upon order, your configuration options are checked and incorporated, final assembly completed, and continuity checks performed to assure the value and performance I have designed for you.

It was originally custom designed and manufactured for a Rocket formation leader (with RV-8 Throttle quadrant) for the purpose of providing an overlay to the existing one (1) inch throttle handle and with electrics and system wiring required to provide PTT and SMOKE. It is now available to the experimental public using the same design with a fully operational and wired PTT momentary and SMOKE rocker switch.  

The throttle grip consists of a 4.33 inch 3D printed universal throttle overlay, ergonomically shaped to comfortably rest within the left hand, incorporating palm and finger cutouts. The grip is sized to adequately clear the prop lever and handle, still retaining the throttle ergonomics of the original VANs CT-83F Deluxe or CT-84F Deluxe throttle quadrant. The push-to-talk (PTT) and SMOKE rocker switches are contained within the inboard fence of the grip, and both operated by the pad of the left-hand thumb. You additionally have the option to choose the switch orientation of the SMOKE rocker switch. FWD is standard, AFT is the option.

This is a throttle grip that provides an interface fit by slipping over your existing RV-8/8A deluxe two or three lever throttle or similar with a 1 inch diameter. It comes complete with a functionally tested and wired PTT and SMOKE switches. (RV-8 Deluxe Throttle quadrant shown in pictures, not included in sale)

• Anti-Rotation Cutout © embodied within the outboard portion of the overlay to prevent rotation of the grip on the stock throttle body.

• Throttle Stake added to allow mechanical fastening of overlay to throttle structure to prevent inboard overlay movement on internal throttle. Mechanical fastener included.

The switch LED, indicates that the switch is switched to SMOKE and applying 12VDC to the Smoke system pump.

• SMOKE rocker switch orientation comes standard in a horizontal ON/FWD configuration. Switch orientation ON/AFT is also available as an option.

• PTT switch and SMOKE rocker switch are mounted on inboard end of grip, wired with two separate 20 inch 22 AWG, Shielded TEFZEL, two and three conductor, functionally tested wire harnesses. Surrounded by a supplied battery tube (heat shrinkable), one harness proceeds down the front of the throttle lever, the other down the aft and all down through the throttle bezel and forward to systems.
